PURPOSE:To adequately drive a display element with various waveforms by impressing voltages of different values to respective electrodes between both X side and Y side electrode groups and executing change over of a switch within one selection period of both the electrodes according to the supply of the waveform data for driving the element. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes intersecting with the common side or segment side transparent electrodes are also provided on the outside of an effective display region 104 and are adequately driven to form a frame part 106.
