The invention relates to the rapid measurement of thermal characteristics of insulating materials. According to the invention, the measurement method comprising a recording of the variations in the difference between the temperatures of the two surfaces of the sample, as a function of the two heat fluxes passing through the faces of the said sample, is followed by an operation of deducing the thermal insulation coefficient M of the said sample of insulating material, which makes it possible to determine the insulating power of the material in the case of a sandwich-type construction. The implementation and device thus comprises two detection units 1, 2 intended to be applied against a sample 3, suction means being provided for creating a vacuum in the detection zone when the unit in question is applied against the surface of the sample. Application to determining the thermal insulation coefficient of insulating windows, and possibly also to determining the overall heat transmission coefficient. <IMAGE>
