PURPOSE:To accurately and automatically measure powder layer thickness in a mold without any restriction on space by photographing an Al coating steel wire at lower side from a detecting plate for upper face of the powder by an image pickup device and finding lengths of Al melting part and Al non-melting part. CONSTITUTION:After fitting the Al coating steel wire 4 to a detachable shaft 13 with the detecting plate for the upper face of the powder at outside of a mold for continuous casting, the Al coating steel wire 4 is vertically descended. Then, at the time of bringing the detecting plate 12 for the upper face of the powder into contact with the powder, the shaft 13 is ascended, and at the same time, when a horizontal arm 11 stops, the height of the horizontal arm 11 position is measured by an encorder, etc. The steel wire 4 is dipped into molten steel in the mold, and then the arm 11 is retreated and taken out to outside of the mold, and the Al coating steel wire 4 as vertical posture is moved to the photographing position of TV camera 5 and photographed. The lengths of the Al melting part and the Al non-melting part of the Al coating steel wire after dipping is found from a picture in a monitor and the total layer thickness of the powder is easily found by an image processor. |
