PURPOSE:To eliminate the collapse of a catalyst during long-term use while eliminating the pressure drop in a catalyst bed, by forming a gaseous phase catalytic partial oxidation catalyst by supporting a catalytic component by a catalyst carrier having 100 or more piercing gas flow passages per 6.45cm<2>. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of a catalytic component in a form of nitrate, carbonate, sulfate or chloride is prepared and sprayed to a honeycomb- shaped catalyst carrier having 100 or more piercing gas flow passages per 6.45cm<2> being preheated to 200-300 deg.C to prepare a gaseous phase catalytic partial oxidation catalyst supporting the catalytic component. This catalyst is useful for the production of an partial oxidized compound by the gaseous phase catalytic oxidizing reaction in a reaction tube having an inner diameter of 12-76mmphi at a spatial speed of 3,000-15,000/hr. In this case, the pressure drop per 1m of the catalyst bed is reduced to 0.1kg/cm<2> or less and reaction generating no change in the difference pressure between the inlet and outlet of the catalyst bed even during long-time reaction can be performed.
