PURPOSE:To reduce a thermal off-track quantity due to the change of an ambient temperature and to surely perform the positioning of a magnetic head, by correcting the off-track of the head on a data plane based on an off-track quantity on an auxiliary servo plane. CONSTITUTION:A control circuit 22 calculates the off-track quantity DELTA of a servo head 12 and a data head 11a based on main servo information from a main servo detection circuit 21 and auxiliary servo information from an auxiliary servo detection circuit 20. The detection circuit 20 sends the auxiliary servo information read from the auxiliary servo plane 24 by the head 11a to the control circuit 22. Then, control to correct the off-track of the head 11a is performed setting, for example, the position of the head 12 as reference, base on a calculated off-track quantity. Also, a driving circuit 23 moves a carriage 13 by a distance equivalent to the off-track quantity DELTA. In such a way, it is possible to seek the heads 11 and 11a to targeted positions.
