PURPOSE:To improve the contact characteristic of a platen, to widen a recording printing width and to perform high-speed, high-quality printing, by integrally bonding a pair of thermal heads each formed by providing a membrane layer composed of polycrystalline silicon on a substrate and forming a heat generating resistor and a drive circuit part on the same substrate and performing thermal recording by the side surface of the integrated thermal head on the heat generating resistor forming side thereof. CONSTITUTION:A thermal head is constituted by integrally bonding a pair of thermal head chips 10, 10 each constituted by forming a heat generating resistor 2 and a drive circuit part 3 on a substrate through an insulating adhesive 11 so as to allow the heat generating resistors 2, 2 to oppose to each other. The substrate 1 is polished in a curved surface shape on the side of the side end surface 1a thereof and the end surface of the adhesive 11 facing to the side end surface 1a is used as a slide surface in thermal recording and thermal recording paper 12 is pressed and held by a platen 13 to perform thermal recording. The active layer 3c constituting a membrane transistor of the heat generating resistor 2 and the drive circuit part 3 is constituted of a polycrystalline silicon membrane. The width (l) of the slide surface 16 of the thermal head can be expanded to a large extent and, when predetermined high density printing is desired to be obtained, high-speed printing is possible. |
