NEW MATERIAL:A compound originated from Sarcophaga peregrina having damaged body surface, having a molecular weight of 7,000 by SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and an amino acid composition (mol.%) of Asp(n) 12.6, Thr 3.8, Ser 7.7, Glu(n) 9.9, Pro 8.1, Gly 15.9, Ala 2.1, Cys 0, Val 4.6, Met 0, Ile 1.3, Leu 3.9, Try 5.1, Phe 5.7, Lys 6.8, His 3.1, Arg 9.3, Trp 0. USE:Antibacterial agent. PREPARATION:The objective antibacterial polypeptide can be produced e.g. by damaging body surface of larva of Sarcophaga peregrina with an injection needle, breeding the larva, squeezing the body fluid from the body, treating the supernatant liquid of the body fluid by multi-stage ion-exchange chromatography and purifying a fraction having high antibacterial activity using HPLC inverted phase chromatography.
