PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the titled compound which is a raw material for perfume, by adding metal sodium again to a reaction system after condensation reaction when a diesterized compound of a straight-chain alpha,omega-dicarboxylic acid with a lower alcohol is subjected to condensation reaction in the presence of metal sodium and reduced. CONSTITUTION:A diesterized product of a 9-18C straight-chain alpha,omega-dicarboxylic acid with a lower alcohol is subjected to acyloin condensation reaction in an organic solvent such as benzene, in the presence of metal sodium at room temperature-140 deg.C. Then when the acyloin condensation reaction is finished, metal sodium is added to the reaction liquid again. After reaction the reaction liquid is cooled and an alcohol is added to react the alcohol with the excess alkali metal and the reaction system is neutralized with an acid such as acetic acid to separate an aqueous solution and from the resultant organic phase a condensate of macrocyclic 2-hydroxyketone is obtained and the condensate is reduced to provide the aimed compound. The metal sodium is added to 1mol. diester at an amount of 4-5mol. at first and then at an amount of 0.01-1mol. after reaction. |
