PURPOSE:To obtain optical elements which is composed of a clear, crystallized glass produced by fusing a glass of a specific composition, forming and precipitating crystalline particles of beta-quartz solid solution in the glass using heat, and is suitable for lenses and prisms in which the optical paths can be directly seen with eyes. CONSTITUTION:An SiO2-Al2O3 glass consisting of, for example, 35-75wt.% of SiO2, 17-35wt.% Al2O3, 0.1-17wt.% of P2O5, 2-6wt.% of Li2O, 0-4wt.% of MgO, 0-5wt.% of ZnO, 0-6wt.% of TiO2, 0.1-4wt.% of ZrO2, 0-3wt.% of Na2O, 0-3wt.% of K2O and 0-0.5wt.% of As2O3 is fused, formed into a desired shape, heated up at a temperature-rising rate of 0.5-10 deg.C/min and kept at 750-950 deg.C for 1-100hr so that crystalline particles of beta-quartz solid solution in the particle sizes of 20-100nm are precipitated in the glass to give the subject optical element made of a clear, crystallized glass.
