PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high yield, industrially and advantageously, by carrying out isopropylation process from methylnaphthalene and propylene, distillation process and two-stage adsorption and separation using zeolite adsorbents showing specific selective adsorptivity, respectively. CONSTITUTION:Methylnaphthalene 27 is isopropylated 21 with propylene 28, the reaction product 30 is distilled 23 and 24 to give methylmonoisopropyl naphthalene fraction 34. Then 2,6-isomer and 2,7-isomers are selectively adsorbed and separated 25 from the fraction 34 by the use of a first zeolite adsorbent showing selective adsorptivity to both 2,6-isomer and 2,7-isomer in the fraction 34 and then 2,7-isomer 37 is selectively adsorbed and removed 35 by the use of a second zeolite adsorbent showing strong adsorptivity to 2,7-isomer than 2,6-isomer to continuously obtain 2,6-methylisopropylnaphthalene 36 useful for producing 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (polyester raw material) from the raw materials in high yield. |
