PURPOSE:To realize not only the omission of a power source but also low cost driving, by a method wherein a stepping motor driving the carriage printer is subjected to two-phase exciting driving at the time of a usual printing speed and subjected to one-phase exciting driving at the time of a low printing speed by the voltage of the same power source. CONSTITUTION:Since a stepping motor performs the rotary motion synchronous to a clock pulse, said motor generally performs equal angular velocity motion when clock pulse frequency is high and a cycle is constant. Therefore, the two-phase exciting printing timing pulse in usual printing is made synchronous to the clock pulse of the motor to perform printing. The one-phase exciting printing timing position in low speed printing is relatively shifted by the 1/2 stepping angle of the case of usual printing. That is, by correcting a 1/2 pulse time in the equal angular speed motion, the printing position of one-phase two- phase exciting driving can be corrected. Further, even when an one-phase exciting printing timing pulse is made synchronous to the clock pulse of the motor, by correcting the two-phase exciting printing timing pulse by a 1/2 pulse, the printing position can be corrected.
