PURPOSE:To realize the printing operation with the positional relation kept correctly between the characters and the patterns regardless of the print format, by converting the pattern coordinates into the coordinates containing the character position and the offset from the character center and converting again the converted coordinates based on the print format information. CONSTITUTION:An arithmetic circuit (1) 3 obtains the line number, the digit number and the offset from the center of a character where the coordinates of a pattern designated on a screen is positioned and stores them into registers 4-7. Then the reference is given to a line coordinate table 8, a character pitch table 9 and a character size table 10 with the line number stored in the line register 4 defined as an index. Then the X/Y coordinates of a pattern set in a print state is calculated by an arithmetic circuit (2) 11. Thus the coordinates designated within a character frame on the screen are converted again with the proportional allocation set in the X/Y direction from the center of a character to be printed. In such a way, the printing operation possible with the correct positional relation is secured.
