PURPOSE:To prevent generation of paper jamming, etc., by controlling a holding member or separating pawl in such a manner that the contact time for pressing the tip part of the separating pawl to a photosensitive body is short at the time of one-sheet feeding of paper and is long at the time of overlap feeding in accordance with the control signal from a control part at the time of separating the paper tightly sticking to the surface of the photosensitive body. CONSTITUTION:A sensor part 4 decides whether the paper 7 tightly sticking to the surface of the photosensitive body 10 at the time of copying is in the one-sheet feeding state or the overlap feed state. The working time of a member 6 for moving the separating pawl is controlled by the control part 5 which makes computation in accordance with the input signal from the sensor part 4 and generates the control signal. The member 6 is so controlled by the control part 5 that the time for pressing the separating pawl 2 to the body 10 is short at the time of the one-sheet feeding of the paper and is long at the time of the overlap feeding. The paper tightly sticking to the body 10 is thereby easily separated and the generation of trouble such as paper jamming is prevented.
