Locking means for a securing ring

Open securing rings (2) which are latched in an annular groove (11) of a machine part (1) are sometimes subjected to axial forces which can result in the securing ring (2) tipping out of the annular groove (11). This is prevented by a retaining ring (3) which is latched onto the securing ring (2). The retaining ring (3) has a U-shaped cross-section with two radial legs (31, 32) which, in the event of mounting, are arranged axially on either side of the securing ring (2). A web (37) connecting the two legs (31, 32) comes to bear, in this arrangement, on the securing ring (2) in order to fix it radially in the annular groove (11). <IMAGE>
