A method is described which permits oligopeptides to be synthesised chemically in such a way that they can be used, without being cleaved off the support used in the solid-phase synthesis, directly as antigen for detecting specific antibodies and for obtaining sera against the epitopes represented by the peptide. By using the same carrier during the synthesis and the following applications it has been possible to show, by the example of specific diagnostic tests to detect specific antibodies to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV) in human sera, the simple manipulation and the great sensitivity, with a very short time taken to prepare the test and carry it out. It was furthermore possible to show by the example of the protein p24 of HIV that the carrier-bound peptides can be used directly for obtaining specific antibodies in the animal system.
