[Also in Division F2] A conveyer belt comprises a flexible rubber element 2 and a longitudinally rigid end member 4 located at each end thereof, the element 2 being reinforced by a layer of longitudinal parallel rubber-covered cords 20, which are swaged within the end member 4. The latter are made up of rigid metal or nylon segments 6 separated by and bonded to flexible rubber elements 7. The segments 6 having a T-shaped cross-section bored longitudinally of the belt to receive the ends of the cords 20. The surface 10 of the members 4 are inclined outwardly towards the flexible belt element 2. On each side of the reinforcing layer 20 is a further layer 21, 22, of cords extending in side-by-side relationship at an angle of 45-90 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the belt, one layer 21 having its angle in the opposite sense to the other layer 22. The two further layers 21, 22 terminate short of the ends of the rubber element 2. An assembly of these belts if formed by sliding an end member 4 of each of two adjacent belts into opposite sides of a jointing member 11. The latter comprises a plurality of rigid segments 12 separated by and bonded to flexible rubber elements 13. Each side of the member 11 is formed with a U-shaped groove into which the T-shaped members slide. In another embodiment the U-shaped groove is provided in the end members 4. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the two layers of angled cords, the angle lying between 5 degrees and 40 degrees in this case, constitute the reinforcing in the belt except for the ends where a third layer of cords parallel to the longitudinal axis of the belt is interleaved between and bonded to the first two layers at one end and swaged into the segments 6 at the other end. In a final embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the reinforcing comprises a single layer of cords parallel to the longitudinal axis which at its ends is interleaved between and bonded to the ends of two layers of angled cords. The remote ends of the said two layers are swaged together in the segments 6. |
