<p>A puncture needle assembly (10) includes a hollow, open ended stylet (12) with a beveled distal end (14) and an outwardly extending stabilizer fin (26) located at the proximal end of the stylet (12) in line with the beveled end (14) of the stylet (12). A needle cannula (30) is disposed exteriorly on the stylet (12) for slidably receiving the stylet (12). The needle cannula (30) releasably interlocks with the stylet (12), and includes a pair of wings (38) that fold towards each other for gripping the stabilizer fin (26) of the stylet (12) in the interlocked position, with the proximal end of the stylet (12) spaced away from the wing fold portions (40) to facilitate visibility of blood passing from a blood vessel through the stylet (12) out an opening in the proximal end thereof.</p> |
