PURPOSE:To treat the title fraction efficiently and economically, by hydrogenating in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst a fraction contg. kerosene and gas oil fractions obtd. by low polymn. in the presence of a solid acid catalyst of an olefin contained in a low-boiling fraction produced by thermal cracking of a heavy oil. CONSTITUTION:A low-boiling oil fraction (A) having a final distillation temp. of 220 deg.C or below and a 13C or lower monoolefin content of 20-50wt.% prepd. by thermal cracking of a heavy oil, optionally after denitrification and removal of dienes, is contacted with a solid acid catalyst (B) (e.g., silica alumina having An and/or Ni carried thereon), thereby conducting low polymn. of the olefin contained in component (A). Thus, a fraction contg. kerosene and gas oil fractions is obtd. Then, this fraction is optionally fractionated into a kerosene and gas oil fractions and an unreacted low-boiling fraction. The unreacted low-boiling oil fraction is recycled to the low polymn. step. The kerosene and gas oil fractions thus obtd. are hydrogenated in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, thereby preparing kerosene and gas oil. |
