PURPOSE:To improve optical coupling efficiency by forming one or both faces of a stem attached with a lens and a guide at which the stem and the guide are joined face to face to spherical or curved faces to and slightly rotating these faces to correct optical axes, thereby aligning the optical axis of a fiber and the optical axis of incident light. CONSTITUTION:The joint parts of the stem 4 and the end 6 of a receptacle have the radii of curvature equal to each other to constitute a part of the spherical faces reverse in codes and can, therefore, be easily rotated while both parts are brought into contact with each other. Since the end of a ferrule exists exactly in the position of a focus, the angle is adjusted by rotating the same to determine the point where the optical axis of the laser light past the lens 3 and the optical axis of the fiber in the ferrule align to each other and the light output is maximized. The laser light is projected on the contact part to join the stem 4 and the end 6 of the receptacle while this state is maintained. A semiconductor laser package has the aligned optical axis and is inserted with the fiber end (ferrule) in exactly the position of the focus and, therefore, the high coupling efficiency is obtd.
