PURPOSE:To obtain the titled copper alloy having high strength, having small softening of the material at height temp. and having good sliding characteristics by limiting the contents of Ni and Si. CONSTITUTION:The copper alloy contg. by weight, 0.4-4.0% Ni, 0.1-1.0% Si and the balance consisting of copper with inevitable impurities is prepd. The total 0.001-3.0% of one or more kinds among Zn, P, Sn, As, Cr, Mg, Mn, Sb, Co, Al, Ti, Zr, Be, Ag, Pb, B and lanthanoid elements are furthermore added to the alloy at need as the auxiliary components. The copper alloy which is strengthened in the range of not very lowering the heat conductivity, has the small lowering of hardness particularly under high temps. and has the good sliding characteristics can be obtd. by the above-mentioned constitution. Said alloy is therefore suitable for a sliding material such as a shoe of a swash plate type compressor, etc., in which the sliding conditions are extremely severe.
