PURPOSE:To improve deodorizing effect and water absorbing effect of a treating agent for excrement by caking powdery siliceous shale consisting primarily of a specified mineral using hydraulic gypsum, forming thus the treating agent for excrement. CONSTITUTION:Powdery siliceous shale consisting primarily of minerals selected from a group having peaks of diffraction in an X ray diffraction pattern at 2theta=20.9 deg., 26.7 deg., and 50.1 deg., among (1) opal CT, (2) opal C, and (3) quartz siliceous shale, is caked with hydraulic gypsum as binder, and molded to a treating agent for excrement. Further, chemicals selected from citric acid or citrate, phosphoric acid or phosphate, alum, ferric sulfate, and boric acid or borate may be compounded in the treating agent.
