PURPOSE:To enable light steering to be performed in the time of low speed running and steering with reaction to be attained in the time of high speed and winding run ning, by increasing a supply pressure of oil to a pressure oil reaction chamber, which holds a power steering (PS) control valve to be urged to the neutral position, respective ly larger in proportion to a car speed and lateral acceleration. CONSTITUTION:A power steering (PS) control valve 12 is connected being associated with a steering shaft 10 through a rack pinion mechanism, and an oil pressure is supplied to a hydraulic reaction chamber 26, for urging the PS control valve 12 in its neutral position side, through a variable throttle valve 30. The variable throttle valve 30, which is controlled by a solenoid 42, operates, being based on detection values by a car speed detector 49 and a lateral acceleration detector 50, such that the larger increases a car speed while lateral acceleration the larger the supply pressure of oil increases. In this way, a device enables light steering to be obtained by decreas ing reaction force smaller to increase a PS effect larger, in the time of straight advanc ing running in a low speed, and responsive steering to be attained by increasing the reaction force larger in the time of running in a high speed or winding running in a mountain road.
