It is known to compression-mould the basic body of a heating-spiral carrier from pulverulent basic materials, to apply a liquid or pasty ceramic binder onto one side of the basic body and to press the heating spiral, heated to a temperature of approximately 200@C, into the binder layer. The disadvantage of this process consists in the fact that the production of the basic body and the fastening of the heating spiral require completely different process steps which also lead to an inhomogeneous body. According to the invention, the basic bodies and the support layer serving for fastening the heating spiral are formed from a homogeneous slurry of mineral fibres in silica sol in that first a predetermined amount of the slurry is sucked into a mould which has a screen base, so that a layer of mineral fibres, forming the basic body, is deposited on the screen base. Then the heating spiral is laid on a surface section of this layer and a predetermined amount of such slurry is again sucked on. By this means, the basic body is reinforced by a thin layer in which those sections of the windings of the heating spiral bearing against the basic body are embedded. This process can be carried out easily in one operation by means of suitable moulds and leads to a heating spiral carrier... Original abstract incomplete. <IMAGE>
