Multipart screws, in particular extruder screws for the processing of rubber compounds, plastics or the like are occasionally designed such that a part of the screw, specifically the discharge part, is exchangeable. To achieve the advantages of exchangeability of screw parts, in particular the possibility of varying the geometric design and increasing the transmissible torques with respect to a solid screw, also in the feed region, the internal shaft (10) of the screw (2) is to be designed in its part lying behind the feed zone (6) of the extruder, as a screw shank (3) with a larger shaft diameter than the feed zone (6). From the feed zone (6) forwards, the internal shaft (10) only picks up the torque from the screw sections (16, 21) disposed downstream. The screw section (11) allocated to the feed-zone region is connected in a rotationally fixed manner only to the screw shank (3). The total torque is thus subdivided into two portions which are brought together only in the region upstream of the feed zone (6) which is unweakened by screw flights (14). <IMAGE>
