Process and apparatus for the production of a double strand in the tobacco-processing industry

The simultaneous production of two or more fibre strands in the tobacco-processing industry is to be further improved, so that fibre strands of which the properties are as identical as possible are formed. For this purpose, the excess quantities (44, 44a) removed from the fibre strands (38, 39) are measured. The excess signals related to the two fibre strands are processed in a comparator circuit (56) to form control signals which, via an actuator (57), influence the division of a unitary fibre stream (26) into a plurality of fibre streams (28, 28a) by the adjustment of a separating means (27). By means of a nuclear density-measuring head (61), the density of an encased fibre strand (49) is determined and the two excess-removing devices (42, 43) are controlled synchronously in dependence on the density measurement values obtained. The invention is used particularly in double-strand machines for the simultaneous production of two cigarette strands.
