An input device is proposed, in the case of which touching triggers an electrical switching process. An electrically conductive surface (31) is fitted on the front (12) of a carrier (14). Cutouts (23, 62) in which sensor surfaces (42, 60, 61) of input elements (11) are arranged are provided on said electrically conductive surface (31). The electrically conductive surface (31) and the sensor surfaces (42, 60, 61) are covered by a protective layer (44). If the surface is touched, a capacitive connection is produced between the sensor surface (42, 60, 61) of the input elements (11) and the electrically conductive surface (61) via the protective layer (44) and via the operator. As a result of the refinement of the input device (9) according to the invention having the electrically conductive surface (31), the interference radiation of the input device is minimised, which interference radiation originates from the signal of an AC voltage generator (20) connected to the sensor surfaces (42, 60, 61), especially when the surface (31) is both connected to the equipment chassis (30) and/or to earth (55). <IMAGE>
