The monitoring device contains a plurality of solid-borne sound microphones (18) which are each assigned to a wheel (12) and attached in a non-moving fashion to the chassis in the direct vicinity of the said wheel (12). The signal of the solid-borne sound microphone (18) is fed to an evaluation circuit (22) in which a frequency-dependent signal conversion takes place. In particular, a multi-channel digital frequency analysis can be performed with a microprocessor. This permits both flat tyres and damage to the chassis to be detected. <IMAGE>
