Coupling agent being a selected product of the hydrolysis and polymerisation of at least one organosilane having a silicon-bonded organofunctional group and three silicon-bonded hydrolysable groups, said product being an organosiloxane cyclic oligomer identified by a gel permeation chromatography peak which exhibits reduction in size preferentially to the peaks of the other polymerisation products when a solution of the polymerisation products is treated with silica gel. The coupling agent may be produced by employing a water: organosilane molar ratio of up to 50:1. It produces advantageous coupling with solid materials having surface groups condensable with silanol or silalkoxy groups, such as siliceous materials (especially glass), metal compounds and metals, and is useful for bonding such materials to organic polymeric materials. |
