A gate, in particular a motor-driven industrial gate, with a cover for the gate opening (6) in the closed position consisting of a lamellar protective screen (2, 2') formed by rigid, mutually inclinable lamellae (8) which in the open position are located in a wound roll (12) in a region at the edge of the gate opening (6), is characterized in that the lamellae (8) project above the top of the gate opening and the wound roll (12) is located at a side edge of the gate opening, and that the lamellar protective screen (2, 2') is guided and supported in the region of the upper or lower edge of the gate opening. This enables the roller gate to be opened quickly and leaves total height of the gate opening (6) free immediately when the gate is opened. In addition, the lateral arrangement of the upright roll results in a compact construction.
