PURPOSE:To ensure the rise of engine torque during initial acceleration while to restrain vibration of a vehicle by controlling the ignition timing in such a way that during acceleration of an engine the ignition timing is compensated so as to restrain variation in the rotational speed of an engine by a predetermined time after the acceleration is continued for a period exceeding a predetermined time. CONSTITUTION:During rotation of an engine, a means A delivers a reference crank signal for every reference angle while a means B computes an engine rotational speed for every reference crank angle n accordance with the reference signal, and a means C computes a variation in engine rotational speed for every reference crank angle. Meanwhile a means D sets a basic ignition timing in accordance with the operating condition of the engine. Further, a means E detects an acceleration of the engine, and when a means F measures an acceleration which continues for a period exceeding a predetermined time, a means G Compensates the basic ignition timing in accordance with a variation in rotational speed in the direction in which the variation in rotational speed is restrained. Thereafter, a means H delivers an ignition signal at the compensated ignition timing.
