PURPOSE:To prevent the clogging of a nozzle or emission bending by preventing the adhesion of the paper powder of recording paper to the surface of a head on the electrode side thereof, by providing a suppressing electrode to the back surface part of the recording paper and making the code of the suppressing electrode the same to that of the potential of the surface electrode of the head and setting the potential thereof to a value equal to or more than the absolute value of said potential. CONSTITUTION:When a head 1 is not opposed to recording paper 5, bias voltage VB and control voltage VS are applied between the surface electrode 2 of the head 1 and a control electrode 4, and a switch element 3 is held to an open state. In this state, the surface electrode 2 is positively charged and electrostatic force is present but, since said electrode 2 is not opposed to the recording paper 5, a paper powder is not attracted to the surface electrode 2. When the head 1 is opposed to the recording paper 5, since the switch element 3 is closed, the code of a suppressing electrode 6 is the same to that of the potential of the surface electrode 2 and the potential thereof becomes a value equal to or more than the absolute value of said potential and only the potential difference corresponding to suppressed voltage VC is generated between the recording paper 5 and the head 1. Therefore, the paper powder of the recording paper 5 is not attracted to the surface electrode 2.
