PURPOSE:To improve the sensitivity of a photosensitive body and to reduce the rise of residual potential by specifying an amount of ammonia to be released out of a substrate cylinder made of a phenol resin. CONSTITUTION:The phenol resin reduced in the amount of ammonia to be released out of the resin is used for the substrate of the photosensitive body. This cylinder made of a novolak type phenol resin is superior in dimensional stability, surface property, and moldability, but since it emits ammonia, it must be freed of ammonia by heat treatment or water boiling before use, but the cylinder made of a resol type phenol resin can be used as it is. The photosensitive body can be improved in sensitivity and residual potential by regulating the ammonia release amount to a specified value or less.
