PURPOSE:To facilitate the adjustment of initial ignition timing by displacing a coupling fitted slidably on a control rod and coupled to a pick-up, by a predetermined distance in association with the rotation of a cylindrical shaft fitted rotatably on the control rod. CONSTITUTION:A vacuum advance 10 is secured to the housing 1 of a distributor by a screw 11, and a cylindrical shaft 27 is loosely fitted on a bushing 12 fitted in the housing 1 so that it is supported. Further, when the initial ignition timing of an ignition signal generating device 2 stored in the housing 1 is adjusted, an transparent cap 13 is removed and a knob part 31 is held to rotate the cylindrical shaft 27 by a predetermined distance. Then a surface cam formed in the cylindrical shaft 27 and a projection formed on a coupling 26 abut against each other, resulting in displacement of the coupling along a control rod 25. As a result, the position of a pick-up 8 relative to a signal rotor 5 is changed by means of a coupling plate 9.
