PURPOSE:To miniaturize the entire reader by storing tentatively a data representing each effective picture element region of plural photoelectric conversion means into a memory control means and controlling the read timing of a picture data based on the data. CONSTITUTION:Two CCD linear image sensors 30, 31 are arranged in a line and a part subjected to photodetection duplicated is provided to apply photoelectric conversion to the reflected light of an original one by one line each. A memory control circuit 37 extracts the part having optically low reflectance in reading the reference face for shading correction, generates an address clock to control the read address. Thus, the memory control circuit 37 controls the read address signal to the data of the line memories 35, 36 and reads the data of the line memory connected to the output of the two A/D converters properly to obtain an output being the conversion of an original picture into an electric signal.
