PURPOSE:To cultivate spinach, especially summer sowing spinach even under high-temperature conditions in high good seedling ratio and in high yield, by absorbing a specific brassinosteroid having plant growth adjusting action on seed of spinach in seed of spinach and seeding the seed. CONSTITUTION:A brassinosteroid shown by formula I (R is group shown by formula II, formula III, formula IV or formula V) is absorbed in seed of spinach and seeded or applied to young seedling thereof and spinach is safely cultivated without using a large amount of organic solvent. The period for the cultivation is properly about June - August as it is generally carried out in summer sowing spinach and as a method to absorb the brassinosteroid in seed the compound shown by formula I is diluted in a large amount of water into 0.005-5ppm concentration and seed is preferably immersed in the solution for 2-8hr at 15-22 deg.C. The treated seed is taken out from the treating solution, dried or not dried and can be seeded. The compound is blended with a carrier and an auxiliary, made into an agent such as dust and directly applied as it is.
