PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain the amorphous metal fine wire having specific bistable magnetic characteristics by a method wherein the amorphous metal fibers obtained using an underwater quenching method, is treated by performing a special process thereon. CONSTITUTION:A threshold magnetic field for formation of reversed magnetic domain is made larger than one for shifting magnetic domain walls, the difference between the two is made to be larger than 0.1 oersted and less than 2 oersteds, and the ratio of residual magnetization and saturation one is set at 0.5 or above. To be more precise, after the amorphous metal fibers obtained by an underwater quenching method are subjected to wire drawing by means of dies to attain a final area reduction rate of 30% or above, a heat treatment is conducted at a temperature higher than 250 deg.C and lower than the temperature of crystallization in a state wherein the stress of 10% or above of breaking strength is applied, and then the metal fibers are quenched at the cooling speed of 10 deg.C or more per minute. As a result, the amorphous metal fine wire of 100 micron or below in diameter having bistable magnetic characteristics can be obtained. |
