PURPOSE:To reduce optical fatigue and extend the life of a photosensitive body by suppressing the quantity of light of a light source irradiated upon the image forming area of the photosensitive body to a necessary minimum. CONSTITUTION:When an area (x) is to be formed, all LEDs L1-L8 are turned on (3-1) at the time ta when the leading end 1a of a photosensitive body 1 reaches a destaticizing device 3. This condition (3-1) is continued for a time t1 and at a time tb, immediately after the time t1 is over, LEDs L4-L7 are turned off (3-3). The condition (3-3) is continued for a time t2 and at a time tc, immediately after the time t2 is over, the lighting condition (3-1) is again realized. When such operations are made, electric charges remaining on the photosensitive body 1 are limited to the area (x) only. When the maximum image forming area (y) is to be made, the lighting condition (3-1) is continued from the time ta to time tb and another lighting condition (3-2) is continued from the time tb to time td, and then, the lighting condition (3-1) is again continued from the time td to time te. |
