PURPOSE:To accurately determine a vehicle advance direction even in the vicinity of a crossing, by stopping the detection of the present position due to a satellite utilizing position measuring apparatus when it is detected that a vehicle is positioned in the vicinity of a crossing by a crossing detection means. CONSTITUTION:At first, the radio wave from a satellite is received by a satellite utilizing position measuring means (a) to measure the present position of a vehicle. Next, an azimuth sensor is utilized by a running history position measuring means (b) to measure the present position on the basis of the running history from a certain reference point. When it is detected that the vehicle is positioned in the vicinity of a crossing by a crossing detection means (c) when the vehicle approaches the crossing, the detection of the present position due to the satellite utilizing position measuring means (a) is stopped by a navigation control unit (control apparatus) (d) and the detection of the present position is performed by the running history position measuring means (b) and this measured present position is displayed on a CRT (e). By this method, the advance direction of the vehicle can be accurately determined even in the vicinity of the crossing. |
