NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by formula I (R<1> is H or acyl; R<2> is alkyl or R<1> and R<2> together with N are bonded to form ring which may contain another hetero atom. or substituent group; R<3> is nitro, amino or acylamino). EXAMPLE:6-Amino-8-[4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-piperazinyl]quinoline. USE:A drug having strong anti-inflammatory action, analgesic action and antiarrhythmic action and useful for arthritis, lumbago, toothache or heart disease. PREPARATION:A 8-halogeno-6-nitroquinoline shown by formula II (X is halogen) is reacted with an amino compound shown by formula III (in the case where R<1> is H and R<2> is alkyl or R<1> and R<2> are bonded to form ring) or an amide compound shown by the formula III (in the case where R<1> is acyl and R<2> is alkyl) to give a compound shown by formula I where R<3> is nitro.
