The carton (31) is oval in cross section and has sloping sides (8,9) and a concave base (6). A special holder advances a blank past a series of working stages. The latter include edge welding, filling, sealing etc. the container shaping is controlled by different tools at each stage after removing the flat blank from a stack. The blank is folded in a matrix with curved surfaces for shaping the sides, both held and pressed together so that the concave base is formed. A folding element is then withdrawn from the matrix for the next operation, before the sides are made to slope inwards towards the top. |
