PURPOSE:To achieve durability of a thermals head and improvement of printing quality by making a direction of a thin film forming means for projecting electrode film forming material to a glazed layer and a heating element edge inclined to a direction normal to a face made by the heating element. CONSTITUTION:For a thermal head, a glass glazed layer 11 and an undercoat layer 12 to a main face 8 and an edge face of a ceramic substrate 7 and an inclined face 10 between both, a heating resistor layer to the inclined face 10, and an electrode films 15, 14 and a protective film 16 to the main face 8 and the edge face 9 are successively formed. Herein, when the electrode films 14, 15 composed of Cr-Au are formed by vapor deposition, the operation is carried out from a direction inclined to a direction normal to a side surface of the main face 8 of the glazed layer 11, and a film thickness is successively decreased from the edge of the heating resistor 13 toward its center. Thus, a difference in level in a heating part of the thermal head is removed and partial concentration of stress disappears. Further, close adhesion to a ribbon or a paper is improved, durability and printing quality are raised, and at the same time, power consumption can be reduced. |
