PURPOSE:To easily contain indefinite quantity of data by providing a definition part in an ADF process part and defining plural indicated CLS(Cartridge Library System) cartridges group as one volume. CONSTITUTION:A data transfer system is constituted of a DASD(Direct Access Storage Device) 2, a CLS cartridge part 3, a cartridge control part 4, a TSS terminal equipment 5 and a central processing device 20 installing the ADF (Automatic Data-migration Facility) process part 1. The ADF process part 1 installs the definition part 10, a data set assignment part 11 and a data write process part 12 and a cartridge keeping part 20 keeps many CLS cartridges. And the above-mentioned definition part 10 is the part which defines the plural CLS cartridges as one volume and it adds a volume ID number by inputting a specified command from the TSS terminal equipment 5. Thus, the CLS cartridges having these numbers are sequentially accessed when the numbers are specified.
