PURPOSE:To permit setting of densities according to the conditions of an original, for example, when the original image has various densities, when the original image includes a photograph, etc., by setting the densities by each of the respective regions of the original image assigned by an image editing means. CONSTITUTION:Prescribed developing devices are driven for the assigned regions and developers of the assigned colors are supplied to the electrostatic latent images corresponding to the respective regions by one time of scanning operation, by which the multi-color images of the set densities are formed. For example, a motor of the 2nd developing device 5 is turned off and a solenoid of the 2nd developing device is turned on upon lapse of the time t2 after the start of the motor of a 1st developing device, i.e., upon lapse of the time (t=0.2sec) when the boundary Z of the electrostatic latent images moves to the developing region X' of the 2nd developing device 5 from the developing region X. Setting of the densities by each of the respective colors is thereby permitted in the case of reproducing the one original image in multiple colors with one time of the scanning operation.
