PURPOSE:To decrease a measuring manday, to reduce a measuring time and to attain the high quality line management and operation by providing a variable attenuator at a master station MODEM end and measuring remotely a slave station MODEM receiving level. CONSTITUTION:The master station processing equipment 1 generates a polling signal to a measured slave station 3 through a master station MODEM 2 and by a variable attenuator 5 provided at the descending transmission line of a two wires system, a master station transmitting level is changed. The equipment 1 supervises the receiving condition of a response signal from the MODEM 3 and obtains a measuring result. In this case, the attenuating value of the attenuator 5 just before reaching an undetermined area from a normal receiving condition comes to be the receiving level margin of the MODEM 3. After the measurement is completed, the equipment 1 updates the slave station of a polling destination successively and measures the receiving level margin of all slave stations.
