PURPOSE:To manufacture an inexpensive fine copper wire excellent in deformability and having high wire strength, by casting a Cu alloy containing specific amounts of B, Na, Mg, etc., and Cr in vacuum and applying specific wire drawing and annealing to the resulting ingot. CONSTITUTION:An alloy having a composition consisting of 0.2-2,000ppm, in total, of one or more elements among 0.1-1,000ppm each of B, Na, Mg, Al, Si, K, Ca, V, Ga, Ge, Rb, Sr, Y, Mo, Cd, Cs, Ba, Hf, Ta, W, Tl, and rare- earth elements and 0.1-50ppm Cr and the balance Cu of >=99.999% purity is cast under vacuum or under a nonoxidizing atmosphere. The resulting alloy- ingot billet is repeatedly subjected to wire drawing and annealing treatment so that at least the final draft is regulated to 70-99.99%, preferably about 90-99.95%. Further, the final annealing is applied at about 150-400 deg.C to regulate elongation to 2-20%, preferably about 6-16%, or, after excessive final annealing is applied, working of 1-5% draft is applied to provide similar elongation. In this way, the fine copper wire for bonding wire having superior characteristics can be obtained. |
