PURPOSE:To form a Ti-alloy plating layer excellent in corrosion resistance and adhesive strength, by applying Ti plating to the surface of a steel sheet and then heating the above sheet in a nonoxidizing-gas atmosphere so as to alloy a part of Ti. CONSTITUTION:A cold-rolled steel sheet is subjected to cathode electrolytic degreasing in an NaOH solution to undergo surface cleaning, which is plated with Ti by 5-60g/m<2> by a vacuum vapor deposition method. Subsequently, the sheet is electrified in a nonoxidizing atmosphere of N2, H2, Ar, or gaseous mixture thereof and heated to 500-800 deg.C for 3-50sec. By the reaction of the Ti plating layer with the steel sheet, the Ti-alloy plating layer having a composition consisting of 60-96% Ti and the balance Fe and excellent in corrosion resistance can be formed.
