Dehumidifying housed electrical equipment - using sulphur tetra:fluoride, prior to filling with sulphur hexa:fluoride

Housed electrical (esp. high voltage equipment, insulated with SF6-contg. insulating gas, is dehumidified by evacuating the housing, introducing SF4 gas to react with H2O, reevacuating and then filling the housing with the insulating gas. ADVANTAGE - The process allows even molecular layers of H2O to be eliminated without heating, and also provides artificial ageing of the equipment to give improved properties and safety.
