PURPOSE:To efficiently control the cooling of plural heating steel tubes with the prescribed temp. history with high accuracy, by allowing jet nozzles to perform reciprocating motions in a direction parallel to steel tubes at a stroke longer than the spacing of nozzle arrangement. CONSTITUTION:Cooling is carried out by arranging misting jet nozzles 13, 13 capable of regulating water volume and an air-water ratio at prescribed spaces to the upper and the lower parts of heating steel tubes 1, 1 moving in parallel on flat rolls 8, 8 in a tube-axis direction. At this time, the nozzles 13, 13 are allowed to perform reciprocating motions in a direction parallel to the steel tubes at a stroke longer than the spacing (l) of nozzle arrangement. A steel tube P1 is cooled from right above by means of a nozzle B in a position X of the nozzle 13 and, in a position Y, cooled from the upper left side and also cooled from the upper right side by means of a nozzle C, and, in a position Z, cooled by means of the nozzle B and a nozzle A. Moreover, a steel tube P2 is cooled in a position X of the nozzle 13 by means of the nozzle C and a nozzle D.
