PURPOSE:To impart high lubricity to a cold rolling oil, by adding a particular amt. of chlorine to a mineral oil when a stainless steel sheet is cold rolled. CONSTITUTION:A cold rolling oil for use in cold rolling of a stainless steel sheet by making use of a rolling oil, wherein 3-10% chlorine is mixed with a mineral oil to adjust the viscosity to 3-10cSt. Excellent seizing resistance of a lubricating oil can be attained in a chlorine content of at least 3% when the viscosity is 10cSt or less and a chlorine content of at least 15% when the viscosity is at least 15cSt. On the other hand, when the chlorine content is 10% or above, the corrosion due to liberated chlorine is unfavorably enhanced. Therefore, the upper limit of the viscosity is restricted to 10cSt. A mineral oil having a viscosity of 3cSt or less brings about a lowering in the flashing point, which makes it necessary to restrict the lower limit of the viscosity to 3cSt. This rolling oil lowers the viscosity of the rolling oil and reduces the thickness of the formed oil film. This enables an effective function to be attained even through the use of a small amt. of chlorine, which makes it possible to impart excellent lubricity to the lubricating oil without causing any enhancement of corrosiveness. |
