PURPOSE:To facilitate working for forming a cable at high temp. and to obtain a cable having high heat resistance by covering an external layer of core-clad type optical fiber with an olefinic thermoplastic elastomer. CONSTITUTION:A soft block of an olefinic thermoplastic elastomer comprising a rubber component having entropy elasticity at RT behaves similarly as vulcan ized rubber at low temp., but a rigid block comprising a resin component thereof prevents plastic deformation. On the other hand, since the resin component is not softened upto the m.p. of the crystal at high temp., sufficient heat resis tance and superior workability with satisfactory softness are provided. Conse quently, plastic optical fiber capable of working for forming cable using a coating material having superior heat resistance and higher heat resistance at high temp. than the heat resistance of the optical fiber material to be cov ered, providing plastic optical fiber having less light transmitting loss due to thermal contraction and having also superior wet heat resistance, is obtd.
